Under-18s report: Leicester City 0 Chelsea 3
15 APR 2023
Our young Blues kicked off this weekend’s action for Chelsea as they collected all three points against Leicester City with a professional performance in the Under-18 Premier League this afternoon.
It was a clinical display from Hassan Sulaiman's boys this afternoon as they cruised to victory, with Tudor Mendel-Idowu grabbing a brace and Donnell McNeilly scoring the third away from home.
Hudson Sands was handed a youth-team debut in goal for our young Blues as Sulaiman named an attacking line-up for the game.
The decision paid off as all the attackers who started the game had a role to play in the three goals that were scored.
It was a slow start from both sides as neither could take full control of the game.
Chances were few and far between as both sides spent the majority of the first period content in their defensive shapes when without the ball.
== Taking our chances ==
With the first period drawing to a close, we found the breakthrough as Mendel-Idowu finished from close range after good work from Louis Flower.
The second-half began with us in firm control of the contest. McNeilly, Flower and Mendel-Idowu all had sights at goal which were dealt with well by the goalkeeper.
Our domination paid off and the Leicester defence, for all their resilience, could do little to stop our second of the game.
== Remaining dominant ==
An intricate pass by McNeilly found Flower, whose shot was parried by the goalkeeper, but it fell into the path of Mendel-Idowu, who was quickest to react and smashed the ball into the net on the rebound.
The goals were flowing and soon after the second we got our third. Ronnie Stutter did well as he played a good through-ball into McNeilly, who was just too quick for the Leicester defence. The striker composed himself and finished beyond Addai.
Sands made a good stop from Joshua King, showing he was not fazed by making his debut for the youth team.
The game would end with three goals to nil, as Chelsea now look forward to Tuesday's test against West Bromwich Albion at Cobham.
