Gallagher: We didn’t do enough

Conor Gallagher wants to see plenty of improvement from Chelsea in the coming weeks after what he acknowledged was a below-par performance in the defeat at Wolves.

The midfielder played the full 90 minutes at Molineux and was involved in most of our best attacking moments. Unfortunately, they were few and far between as the hosts resolutely defended their box. In the end, we mustered a solitary shot on target as Wolves extinguished our hopes of a result.

‘We can’t have too many complaints,’ said Conor. ‘It was a disappointing game. We had confidence, we were up for it and excited for the game, but we’re disappointed and angry because we want it so bad. We want to win games for the club, for the fans. It’s just not clicking at the minute.

Gallagher also spoke about Frank Lampard’s arrival after the game at Molineux. One of his childhood heroes as a Chelsea fan growing up, the 23-year-old is pleased he can work under our new caretaker manager, but Gallagher knows we must do better quickly.

‘He had a couple of days, he got his information across about how he wants to play, and everyone was happy with it and ready for the game,’ Gallagher revealed.

‘He wanted us to play with personality and intensity, and it just didn’t click. The quality of the squad we have, we should be winning a lot more than we are.

‘We have to keep working hard and looking where we can improve, and hopefully it can improve and we can start winning games where we should be.’
