Under-18s report: Chelsea 4 Aston Villa 1

01 APR 2023

Our under-18s were in a goalscoring mood this afternoon as an impressive second-half performance saw us dispatch Aston Villa in a league encounter. Ronnie Stutter grabbed a brace. Louis Flower and Kiano Dyer were the other scorers.

The young Blues ushered in the new month with a fine win against Aston Villa at Cobham this afternoon.

After a good victory before the international break against Southampton, Hassan Sulaiman’s side looked to make it a second win on the bounce.

== Even start ==

With it being a fairly quiet start from both sides, Villa took the lead from almost nothing as a hopeful cross into the box by Charlie Pavey was diverted into his own goal by Kaiden Wilson. Not the best start for our young Blues.

Stutter equalised for us, and it was a fine finish in the penalty box following good play from Ato Ampah out wide.

We got into good crossing position again, as this time Somto Boniface delivered and found Stutter, but he could not find the finish needed to send the ball past the keeper.

We continued to put pressure on the away side in the second period and Tudor Mendel-Idowu went close as his header clipped the crossbar.

== Continued pressure ==

We took the lead for the first time in the game and great individual play from Mendel-Idowu released Flower who set himself and finished well.

We should have had a third as a fast break led by Stutter ended with him firing a cross into the box but with the goal gaping, Flower could not divert the ball into the goal.

It did not take long though after that chance to get our third, and it was Dyer who finished in impressive fashion, scoring a solo goal. He dribbled his way into the box beating his opponent and then followed that with a delightful chip from a tight angle.

Mendel-Idowu was enjoying himself and he struck a fantastic shot which crashed off the crossbar. The second time he hit the woodwork today.

Unsurprisingly, Mendel-Idowu was involved again in a goal as he was fouled in the penalty box after some neat footwork.

Stutter stepped up and dispatched the penalty to give himself a brace, as we scored our fourth.

It is now back-to-back wins for our boys as they stay in fifth place. The under-18s will be in action next on Saturday 15 April when we take on Leicester City away from home.
