Gallagher excited by Chelsea’s potential

11 FEB 2023

Conor Gallagher admits there have been tough times for him and the team this season, but believes with the new signings added to the squad and Graham Potter at the helm, the only way is up as Chelsea look to fulfil our goals in the second half of the season, starting with victory at West Ham United in the Premier League today.

The midfielder is in his first full campaign with the Chelsea senior side, having made his debut in our opening-day win at Everton, and admits it hasn’t all been plain sailing for him or the team.

Gallagher’s commitment has never been in doubt by anyone who has witnessed his tireless performances for the Blues this season, though, and he has outlined the areas he is focused on improving and explained why he has no doubts this Blues side will find our form.

‘There have been a lot of ups and downs already, but that’s football,’ said Gallagher. ‘I will always give 100 per cent on the pitch. The coaches, the manager and the fans can see that. I want to affect games better, score more goals because that’s something I did last season, so hopefully I can improve that a little bit.

‘Tough times come and go, and I feel like as a team we are developing. We have new players, everyone is getting used to each other and the new coaches and manager at Chelsea are in that development phase. It’s very exciting, we’re definitely progressing.

‘It takes time for a team to gel. We’re all working together. It’s a brilliant group. It will definitely come good. There is a lot of competition, a lot of world-class players, world-class midfielders. It’s good to have healthy competition. We push each other in training, we are fighting for a starting spot for the next game.

‘The new players are settling in well, we can already see what they can do. They’re all very young and hungry to do well and to work for each other. They’re all top players and I’m excited to see how they can help us for the rest of the season.’

Gallagher also acknowledged the part Graham Potter has played in giving him that optimism for the Blues' chances of achieving our aims in the rest of the season, having been impressed with the way he continually challenges the players.

‘The realistic target is top four,’ he added. ‘The manager is on to us every day, he’s been brilliant. He pushes us in training and helps us on and off the pitch. We know what we need to do and we know what we’re capable of achieving this season.

‘He’s been great. It’s obviously a massive job to come in to with new owners and a lot of new players, you have to give him and the coaches a lot of credit for that. All we want to do is improve on the pitch and get better results. We are Chelsea and we should be higher in the table, that’s what we’re working towards.’

The next step in that task of getting back to where we belong in the Premier League table begins later today, when we travel across the capital to take on West Ham United at the London Stadium, and it is a clash the 23-year-old – who celebrated his birthday this week – is looking forward to, even if he is not expecting it to be easy.

‘It’s going to be a tough game. Although West Ham haven’t done the greatest this season they are a very good side. We need to focus on ourselves and perform the best we can, do the basics well, show confidence, and I think we will get the three points.

‘It’s a great stadium, all the lads will be excited to play there and have our travelling fans and support, they’re always brilliant in away games.’

上面買那麼多人,最應該要有危機感的就是蓋拉格、芒特還有洛夫圖斯奇克了吧....

畢竟,青訓總是不值錢但也最值錢。
