Havertz pleased with win and enjoying free role
14 MAR 2023
Kai Havertz has highlighted the importance of our away win at Leicester and expressed his delight at being given the freedom to play in offensive areas by Graham Potter.
The German international, often deployed as our central striker in a front three, was among the goals in our 3-1 away win in the East Midlands, netting a stunning second after being set up by Enzo Fernandez.
His goal came either side of equally fine strikes from Ben Chilwell and Mateo Kovacic as Chelsea recorded a third victory of the week and the striker believes the Blues are starting to turn a corner following a tough run in 2023.
‘To win three games in a row is important for us because we had a tough time before that,’ the striker explained.
‘We’ve had a lot of players come in and we knew it was going to take some time to time to adapt for everyone. So maybe, you could see that we are still not finished. It will take always time to develop. We are improving with each game though and now we must continue in this way.’
Havertz played as our central striker in the victory at the King Power Stadium but it was noticeable that he interchanged a lot with other forward players, notably Joao Felix, and would come deep for the ball or even drift out wide.
The German has said this was a specific tactical instruction from Graham Potter, to allow the front free to play more fluid, and he admitted he is enjoying the freedom he is being allowed in this role.
‘I like this position, it is quite a free role and I’m allowed to come deeper,’ added Kai. ‘Having said that, I also like to play as a number nine so having those options is good. Whatever the manager wants me to do for the team, I’m happy.
‘With the system we are playing at the moment, it’s very fluid. It means I can be free, especially offensively, and I can find spaces to play from.’
Kai’s goal was a beautifully taken finish, set up by a perfectly weighted pass from Enzo Fernandez – a player the German is delighted to be linking up well with.
‘Yes I really enjoy playing with Enzo,’ Kai said of the Argentinian. ‘He’s a great player and he has a lot of qualities. He’s shown this in the last few games and his ball for my goal was fantastic.
‘Scoring in the past few games is a great feeling but the most important thing is helping the team get the victory and hopefully we can push forward now.
‘I must admit, I did think I might have been offside so I didn’t celebrate really! These days, with VAR, you know the goal will be checked so I thought it was best to wait and see first.
‘Scoring is a great feeling and even though the celebration may not have shown it, it was the best thing and important for us to get the win.’

官網編輯不知道在寫什麼,上半場明明就是讓穆德里克踢中鋒,
雖然凱踢右邊還不錯,不過下半場凱右穆左雙前鋒的效果還比較好。
