Academy news: Sulaiman confirmed Under-18s coach as Brand joins Swindon

Chelsea Football Club can confirm Hassan Sulaiman is the new head coach for the Under-18 team.
Sulaiman has been a part of the Academy set-up at Chelsea since 2008, climbing through the coaching ranks and taking on a number of roles in the process. His most recent position was as the Under-16 head coach.
About his appointment, Sulaiman said: ‘I am delighted to take on this new role and this is an opportunity that I am really looking forward to. I want to thank the leadership team for having the confidence in me to continue the success of the Academy.
‘My passion is to help players become better people and better footballers, ultimately maximising their potential.’
Swindon Town has announced that our previous Under-18 head coach Ed Brand has joined them as an assistant to Jody Morris, who was appointed the League Two club’s head coach in January.
Brand, a former Chelsea youth team defender, began coaching in our Academy in 2008 and stepped up to assist Morris with our Under-18s in 2016. During their two seasons working together at that level, the young Blues won every competition we were involved in. Brand became Under-18s head coach in 2019.

Ed Brand becomes Assistant First-Team Head Coach at Town

The 36-year-old, who is currently the London clubs under-18s Head Coach, has penned an 18-month contract at SN1 and will join us permanently.
Having been coaching in the Chelsea academy since 2008, Ed worked with Morris in the Under-18 setup in 2016, winning every competition they were involved in over a two-year period.
As Head Coach of that age group, he guided their talented young charges to Under-18 Youth Cup and Under-18 Premier League Cup successes in 2020 and 2022 respectively.
He also assisted Joe Edwards with the Blues development squad as they reached the UEFA Youth League Final two seasons running.
Following confirmation of his appointment earlier today, Ed said: “It’s fantastic to join such a highly regarded club with such an ambition. It’s taken a little while to everything over the line, but I’m delighted it’s all done and I can take my place in the dugout for tomorrow’s game.
“There are some really great foundations here to build on and I believe we can achieve something very special.
“I’m looking forward to working alongside Jody once again. He’s a close friend and a top coach, and I’m excited to help him implement his philosophy and take us to where we want to go.”

Club statement: An update on the appointment of Ed Brand

Swindon Town Football Club would like to take this opportunity to provide fans and the media with an update surrounding delays in the appointment of our Assistant Head Coach, Ed Brand.
It’s been well documented over the past few weeks that since First-Team Head Coach Jody Morris took over, his chosen number two has been unable to fulfil his role at the club thus far.
Following Jody’s arrival at the County Ground, a secondment between Premier League side Chelsea, where Ed has been an academy coach since 2008, and Swindon Town, was agreed by both clubs.
Given the arrangement between ourselves and Chelsea, there is a detailed application process we must go through to comply with all contractual and legal regulations, which then requires sign off by the appropriate football associations and governing bodies.
In order to bring Ed into the football club at the earliest opportunity, we submitted these documents alongside Chelsea to the FA, Premier League and the EFL, but the approval process has taken longer than anticipated.
As a football club, we recognise the importance of completing all the necessary due diligence and ensuring this particular agreement meets all relevant protocols.
We will continue working with the FA and EFL in the hope we receive final written approval from both respective FA and EFL boards in due course.
